The commission will approve final changes to Madison Metro bus routes, to be implemented this August. Among the cuts: The last bus for Allied Drive would leave the Capitol Square at 10:15, not 10:45, thereby screwing anyone from the troubled neighborhood who has to work late downtown. Minorities make up less than 10% of the city's top management positions. Women have snared just 34% of the top spots. But the city may finally be getting serious about improving its diversity. Brad Wirtz, Human Resources director, will present new recruitment strategies at Tuesday night's meeting.

Warner Park Community Recreation Center
The commission will vote on the proposed new shelter at Tenney Park on the near east side. The $1.2 million facility will include a large concession stand, a kitchen, a covered patio, and a large meeting room that could be used year-round. The Tenney Park Shelter Group, which includes local luminaries such as developer Terrence Wall, who grew up near the park, will raise part of the cost.

Don't like what Metro did with the bus routes? Now's your chance to speak up and give your opinion on Madison's long-term transportation projects. With the cost of gas heading for $4 a gallon, would hurt to lobby for some more bus routes and even -- what the hell -- train service?
