- Defeated Madison School Board candidate Maya Cole seeks a recount, at the urging of her supporters. Arlene Silveira beat Cole by only 86 votes out of nearly 36,000 ballots cast.

- Juan Vincente Jr., 29, is shot in the face by an unknown assailant outside his west-side Madison home. He is taken to UW Hospital, where a bullet is removed from his chin. Police do not have a suspect, but find nearly $19,000 in a search of Vincente's home.
- Hundreds of people attend Madison's 150th birthday celebration at Monona Terrace. Revelers eat free cake, participate in a drum circle and view displays on Madison's history.

- More than 10,000 people march from Brittingham Park to the Capitol in support of immigration rights. Speakers, including Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, decry proposed federal legislation that would tighten border security and make it a felony to be in the country illegally.
- The Wisconsin Supreme Court suspends former Senate Majority Leader Chuck Chvala's law license. Chvala, 51, is now serving nine months in jail after being convicted of using state workers on his campaign.
- The Madison School Board votes 4-3 to use general operating funds to pay for a $2.7 million expansion of Leopold Elementary School.
- Jose Puerto, 34, is sentenced to 13 years in prison for repeated sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl. Puerto, an illegal immigrant, will likely be deported to Mexico after he is released from prison.

- Two Madison police officers shoot a man to death after he allegedly attacks them at the BP Amoco gas station on Williamson Street. Eyewitnesses say police also shot and injured a bystander. One of the police officers is seriously injured when the suspect stabs him in the arm, and another reportedly suffers bite wounds.
- A Wisconsin Public Radio-St. Norbert College survey shows that Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager leads primary challenger Kathleen Falk 36% to 26% among Democratic respondents. Among all respondents, each drew 24% support. Asked how they would vote in a Republican primary, 15% of respondents picked Waukesha County District Attorney Paul Bucher, compared to 6% for former U.S. Attorney J.B. Van Hollen.
