Occasionally in this space, I like to share a moment of fading notoriety.
Over the summer, I had a woman stop me at the Union Terrace to insist that I was a Realtor she knew. I explained that I like Realtors but I have never been one. She argued the point with me.
I sometimes like to respond to people who tell me that I look familiar by explaining that I used to do the weather on Channel 3. About half the time people accept that explanation, even though I don't think I look anything like Gary Cannalte.
Anyway, the latest chapter in my ongoing fade away from public consciousness came last week at Union South where I was playing sheepshead with some friends. We got up to leave and I noticed this guy waving at me. I smiled and waved back. Must have been a fan, I thought. But as I continued to stand there chatting with my friends, the guy continued to wave at me. I politely waved back again. Must have been a big fan, I thought. I hope I don't have to sign an autograph.
Then I noticed that he was continuously waving and that he wasn't smiling. I looked behind me. The Seattle Seahawks were playing the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football. I moved. He resumed eating his burger.
