Hailing from Madison's kindred city to the south known as Austin, indie darlings Okkervil River returned to town recently, playing at the High Noon Saloon on the night of Friday, Oct. 6. Following opening performances by tour partner Elvis Perkins and local rockers Shazy Hade, the headliners from Texas played to a full house at the east side music club. Their final song of the set was "Kansas City," the elegiac single from their 2002 album Don't Fall in Love With Everyone You See.
More than five minutes of live concert video follows below.
Preceding the show, Madison music blogger Ryan Matteson interviewed Will Sheff, the band's frontman. He answered five questions, speaking about their recent appearance on Austin City Limits, what albums the band is listening to on the road, and some of their new work. Photos of Okkervil River performing at the High Noon -- alongside Elvis Perkins and Shazy Hade -- are available here. Kiki Schueler, meanwhile, reviewed the show, describing the crowds as bigger and the music as better. More information about the band is available from okkervilriver.com and from the band's MySpace page.
