The Mad Rollin' Dolls are back in action this weekend with the second match of their monster third season. Friends, fans and skaters will be jamming into the Fast Forward Skate Center on the southwest side of town, escaping the arctic void outside to partake in the beer, belly-dancing and derby fun to be found inside.
This bout comes merely three weeks after the season opener on Jan. 13, which boasted broken attendance records and a grudge match reprising last season's finale. The Dolls describe the action:
Cheering from tiptoes, chair tops, and even from perched atop Fast Forward's lockers, happy onlookers were treated to a re-match of last season's championship game. The hits were hard and the wheels spun so fast, some swear they smelled smoke. In the end, the Reservoir Dolls upset 2006 Season Champs, the Quad Squad, in a stunning 74 to 56 victory. The second match-up of the night saw the Unholy Rollers put up a strong fight, but ultimately the determined Vaudeville Vixens put more points on the board, winning 63 to 39.
What about this weekend's fun, though? Here's what the Dolls have planned:
The line-up on Saturday, Feb. 3 will be just as explosive, as the Quad Squad sets out to prove to the Vaudeville Vixens that the gals in green weren't season champs for nothing. The Unholy Rollers, heavy with fast, fiery rookies, will strap on their skates in an effort to tangle the Reservoir Doll's ties in their wake. As always, MRD gives back to the community, and a portion of the evenings proceeds will go to Clean Wisconsin. A halftime show by El Genneyya Bellydancing Troupe will keep the wild crows in their seats while the Dolls hydrate and regroup.
Post-bout partying will subsequently continue at the High Noon Saloon, where The Avoided, The .357 String Band, and Those Poor Bastards will look to warm up the night.
A taste of what the bastards -- better known as Lonesome Wyatt and The Minister -- have in store for the derby-fried crowd is available for viewing online. Several live concert video clips of their gothic country, including their performance of "The Bright Side" follow below.
