Following the The Hold Steady show in Madison last Friday, Madison music blogger Tom Geer noted that the band delivered the kind of party that lives through their music.
"Lead man Craig Finn will frequently ignore his mic and shout into the first few rows of fans on the floor to stir them up," Geer explained before sharing the story of how the band got guitarist (and onetime Madisonian Tad Kubler to shotgun a beer. "To his credit, Kubler did take half a second to act like he was reluctant to do it because his mom was at the show," Geer continued. "I almost believed him."
This moment was actually captured on video by Minneapolitan Jake Mohan, who notes that Kubler took his big drink as the band performed "Killer Parties" from their 2004 album The Hold Steady Almost Killed Me. His brief mid-concert video clip follows below.
