Margin Call: A Wall Street firm verges on collapse in this superb drama, which puts a human face - a ghastly human face - on the 2008 financial disaster. As played by the excellent ensemble cast (Kevin Spacey, Zachary Quinto, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Simon Baker, Stanley Tucci, Demi Moore), the firm's employees are a self-pitying, contemptuous bunch.

Warrior: This sports drama hits many right notes in its tale of two estranged brothers (Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton) on parallel courses toward the same mixed martial arts tournament. There are a few wrong notes, too, but the film effectively sets up the final showdown.
