The Bling Ring: Based on a true story, Sofia Coppola's latest feature follows a teen (Israel Broussard) and his gang of fame-obsessed friends (Katie Chang, Taissa Farmiga, Emma Watson), who use the Internet to track the whereabouts of celebrities and then rob their homes. This film feels as soulless as its protagonists, and there's little sympathy to be found either for the story's über-rich victims.
The East: While working to infiltrate an ecoterrorism cell, an undercover agent (Brit Marling) wins over the leader (Alexander Skarsgård) but makes another member (Ellen Page) suspicious. The cinematography looks sharp, but the radical characters seem interchangeable.
