The Future: Writer-director Miranda July employs fantasy elements in telling this ambiguous story about a man (Hamish Linklater) and woman (July) who resolve to adopt a cat (voice of July). It's a fine movie that's unafraid to be weird.

One Day: College grads (Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess) resolve to remain friends, and over more than 20 years, we revisit them every July 15 to see how that friendship is working out. Ridiculous concept aside, this charming film does much of what you ask of a romance: It gives you two interesting people and a reason to hope that they wind up happy.
