The Lake House: Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock emote up a storm in this supernatural weepie. It slowly accumulates power and gets extra points for holding on to its dour mood even after the romantic leads have discovered that they're communicating via snail mail across time.
The Notorious Bettie Page: Pinup model Bettie Page (Gretchen Mol) brought a wholesome tingle to 1950s nudie magazines, and Mary Harron's biopic portrays her as sweet and innocent. The movie has a nice Reefer Madness vibe, but as an examination of what drove the God-fearing Page to take off her clothes, it doesn't go far enough, draping a fig leaf over the most private parts of her fragile psyche.
