Unstoppable: Denzel Washington and Chris Pine try to stop a runaway train in this bit of hollow, thudding bombast. Director Tony Scott is a master at fetishizing the hulking locomotives, but the story is wearyingly predictable.

Waiting for 'Superman': Director and co-writer David Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth) examines the ailing U.S. school system and some reformers who are trying to fix it. The film is forceful but somewhat maddening, especially in the way it casts teachers' unions in an almost laughably monstrous light.
