The Shaggy Dog: This above-average remake finds district attorney Tim Allen turning into a dog after being bitten by a mystical canine. The film has few surprises, but parents will find it painless and kids will be delighted.

V for Vendetta: This Orwellian nightmare stars Hugo Weaving as a man-in-a-mask who tries to bring the English people to their senses by blowing up Parliament. Natalie Portman has screen presence to burn as the mad bomber's apprentice, but the movie itself isn't near as explosive as its ideas about domestic security and foreign intervention.
