Children's Theater of Madison announced Monday that it has purchased Madison Repertory Theatre's production inventory, including scenery, costumes, lighting instruments, props, tools and equipment. CTM will add in its own stock to create the Madison Arts Production Cooperative.
It's a major coup for CTM and a possible new profit center. It won't be a cooperative in a legal corporate sense, but a subsidiary rental house for theaters and even film. It will be located in the Rep's existing south Madison storage facility, which includes space for set construction but not rehearsal.
An anonymous donor made the purchase possible. Producing artistic director Roseann Sheridan won't disclose a dollar amount, and she stresses that fundraising for the deal and CTM's other needs continues. "But sometimes you have to make a move," she says. "This is an investment in CTM's future and the future of theater in Madison."
