Looking for a shopping experience that's more blissful than stressful? Free from pushy salespeople and high prices? A space splashed with lively colors, filled to the brim with charming merchandise and bowls of free candy?
Believe it or not, this is not just shopping fantasy. This is peg's, a delightful boutique that specializes in kitschy consignment and all-things-adorable.
One-of-a-kind items are packed and stacked into beautifully busy displays. You'll find ladylike frame bags, jewelry reworked from antique materials, handcrafted shabby-chic furniture, and so much more. There's even a selection of over 400 salt-and-pepper-shaker sets ranging from seashells to owls to Schlitz beer bottles. Surprisingly, most items are under $20.
As you can tell, peg's is a collectors' paradise. As owner Peggy Graves says, "If you can't find it at peg's, you can't find it anywhere else."
If buying that last ceramic flamingo for your collection hasn't already lifted your spirits, peg's offers an atmosphere that just screams "HAPPY." As you read local artist Alisson Burda's hilarious gift cards ("Having children is like being pecked by a duck") and chat with the friendly and knowledgeable Peggy (who is a hoot), all the while nibbling on free Necco wafers, you'll vow never to shop mass-produced again.
Graves, who has a background in retail gift displays, opened peg's last December. A self-proclaimed "stuff-collector," she says her store was in her head from childhood. She always wanted to sell "treasures you can't find other places."
Along with those treasures, peg's sells a heap of cheerfulness and a whole lot of fun.
Get your happy on with these items: Mag Bags custom magazine cover handbags ($30); Gajettes vintage jewelry hair ornaments ($12.50); Breakfast at Tiffany's framed picture ($14).
