Madison Meet and Eat, the city-sponsored food cart gathering meant to strengthen neighborhood ties, began this summer in Meadowood. It will continue for two more Thursdays, Sept. 6 and 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot next to the Meadowood Shopping Center at 5800 Raymond Rd. Plans are for the program to expand to other neighborhoods next summer.
Zen Sushi, a familiar food cart from years past, was not around much last spring or over the summer. But the pretty wooden cart decorated with hundreds of origami paper cranes is back on the Library Mall weekdays, with its standing menu of handmade sushi boxes and daily specials of hot or cold dishes. These include beef and chicken curry, chikuzen-ni, Nagasaki-style chicken, zaru soba, oyako-donburi - specials are announced on Facebook; search Zen-Sushi-Library-Mall. The daily whiteboard carefully lists all ingredients, and the mother-daughter team behind the cart gladly explain any unfamiliar dishes.
