The Wisconsin State Journal reports that the Los Angeles Police Department has opened a criminal investigation of former assistant UW-Madison athletic director John Chadima for an alleged sexual assault at a hotel during the football team's trip to the Rose Bowl. Chadima resigned in January after the student complained about the incident.

Dan Nerad, Madison schools superintendent, announces that he will resign his position by June 2013. It's later reported that Nerad is a finalist for a superintendent position in Omaha, Neb.

Two separate appeals courts send appeals of lower court decisions on the state's new voter ID law to the state Supreme Court for consideration. The lower courts have rejected the law as unconstitutional. The state Department of Justice is appealing.
