Nathan Middleton, 30, pleads guilty to two felonies for burning the body of 18-year-old Aprina Paul of Fitchburg last October in his Rock County backyard. Middleton told authorities he met Paul on Craigslist and paid her to have sex. He claims she took drugs and he found her dead in his bed the next morning and panicked. Investigators were unable to determine the cause of Paul's death from the bone fragments they found in Middleton's yard.
Stacey Kulow, a standup comedian whose Twitter page declares "I'm funnier than I look," beats out 71 others to win Madison's Funniest Comic.

Former Madison Police Chief Noble Wray is named interim president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Madison, taking over for Kaleem Caire, who announced his resignation earlier this month. The search for a permanent replacement is expected to take six months.
A teenager is arrested for allegedly throwing his 5-month-old son at the child's mother during an argument on the south side of Madison. The child, who was in a car seat, was not injured.

UW-Madison announces that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has fined it $35,000 for seven violations of federal animal research treatment standards between 2007 and 2013.
Dominic D. Cizauskas, 18, a linebacker from Mukwonago and a prize football recruit, is charged with rape for a Dec. 14 incident in a woman's dorm room during a UW visit. After exchanging several text messages with the woman, Cizauskas allegedly came to her room and raped her. "I didn't know what to do," the woman told police. "I was by myself, my roommate went home for the weekend and he's a 200-pound football player and he had been drinking." Cizauskas was expected to sign with UW.

The Rev. Richard Pritchard, who championed both social justice and conservative social issues, dies at his Madison residence. He was 100.
The Republican-controlled state Assembly approves, with a few tweaks, Gov. Scott Walker's plan to use a large portion of the state's reserves to lower income and property taxes. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) says: "What a great day."
Nakul Kalra, a 21-year-old UW-Madison student who had been missing since Saturday, is found dead near his home. Foul play is not suspected.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the latest Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages report showing that Wisconsin gained 28,351 private-sector jobs between September 2012 and September 2013 -- a 1.2% increase that ranks the state 35th in the nation in job growth. In a news release, Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) criticizes Republicans for not paying more attention to the economy and job growth: "And they've made it clear that the only issue they would come back [in session] for is more voter suppression."
