A Texas court sets an execution date of Dec. 3 for Scott Panetti, a Wisconsin native who suffers from mental illness and attempted to subpoena Jesus Christ and John F. Kennedy during his 1995 trial. He was convicting of killing his parents-in-law in 1992.

The UW-Madison announces that Emily Auerbach, an English literature professor, won the national Commission on Access, Diversity and Excellence Distinguished Service Award. Auerbach is being honored for her work with the UW Odyssey Project, which helps people facing economic barriers attend college.

North Central Group sends a letter to the city asking it to reopen the bidding process for Judge Doyle Square, since the project has changed so drastically through negotiations with Bob Dunn, who was selected as the developer.
The Madison Police Department releases accident statistics showing that the most dangerous intersection last year was East Washington Avenue and Stoughton Road, with 42 crashes and 13 injuries. There were 5,054 traffic crashes citywide in 2013, up from 4,676 in 2012.

Republicans thump Democrats in several elections, with Gov. Scott Walker winning reelection, Brad Schimel winning attorney general, and U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan easily winning reelection to Congress. State Sen. Glenn Grothman (R-Fond du Lac) won a seat in Congress. And in the state Senate, Republicans increased their dominance, picking up two seats.
