The state Elections Board decides not to vote on whether gubernatorial candidate Mark Green can keep $775,000 in campaign donations transferred from his congressional campaign. Last month, the board ordered Green to give up another $468,000 in donations from political action committees not registered in Wisconsin.
Police charge three alleged members of a robbery ring that targeted 14 businesses over the past two months. Sven Heilskov, 34, Georgianna Smith, 37, and Bradley Tolson, 57, are being held in the Dane County jail. Police shot and killed the ring's alleged leader, David Bracey, after he attempted to rob a Home Depot in Wisconsin Dells last month.

About 250 workers at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plant in Sun Prairie go on strike, after the company proposes wage cuts and a freeze on pensions. The workers are part of a nationwide strike against Goodyear.
George Rogers, 48, is sentenced to 18 months in prison for theft by fraud. After Shamrock Bar owner John O'Connell died in 2002, Rogers claimed he owned the downtown business in filings with the city, then fraudulently re-sold it.

The Madison Police Department suspends Lt. Wayne Strong for five days for lying to the media about a suspect in a double homicide. On Aug. 6, Strong told the media that police were still searching for a 'person of interest,' when in fact Alec Williams, 54, had already been arrested. Williams is charged with killing Denise Lowery, 46, and James Frasier, 51, in a south-side apartment.
The UW Board of Regents votes to oppose the proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. The Regents say the ban will hurt the UW System's ability to recruit gay and lesbian employees.

A 38-year-old woman is hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a car while riding her bicycle on the north side. Police are still searching for the driver, who did not stop.

About 300 people attend a debate on U.S. foreign policy between Rep. Tammy Baldwin and her Republican challenger, Dave Magnum, at UW's Memorial Union. (For a report by Vikki Kratz, see TheDailyPage.com.) Magnum at one point mistakenly calls himself a 'moderate Democrat.'

The Madison school board votes to amend the district's new wellness policy and allow high school students to once again purchase snacks from vending machines during the lunch hour. The vending machines will stock only healthy snacks, such as milk or yogurt.
Tuesday 10.8
A federal judge orders that Robert Lowery be released from custody while he undergoes cancer treatment. Lowery, 57, was arrested in June and charged with running a marijuana operation from his town of Dunn farm. Police also removed about 50 pit bulls, which they suspect were used for fighting, from Lowery's home. No animal cruelty charges have been filed against him.
