Is David Blaska's blog fake? Is it a fake conservative blog like The Colbert Report is a fake conservative TV Show?
If not, why does Isthmus keep publishing this conservative garbage? I thought you were a liberal paper?
I lived in Madison from 2001 to 2010, and I never remember reading Blaska until I moved. Please tell me if he is fake and why you are publishing this.
Louisa Emmett Shorewood, Wis.
News editor Bill Lueders replies: Yes, Louisa, there is a David Blaska. He is as real as you or I. He breathes air and eats food. He even has a reflection.
As noted in our pages last week ("35 for 35"), David Blaska has been a conspicuous presence in Madison for decades, as a newspaper reporter and editor, a county supervisor, a commentator on radio, television and, ultimately, the Internet. He's blogged for Isthmus since 2007, several years before 2010, and he's been writing columns chiding liberals at least since the 1980s, when he worked for The Capital Times.
By the way, Louisa, while the Cap Times may be comfortable being called a "liberal paper," Isthmus is not. Our primary mission is to inform and not to persuade, and we have always made room in our pages for conservative voices.
Why do we do this, you ask? It's because we recognize that not everyone has the same political perspective, even in Madison, and because we believe that even those readers who do consider themselves liberal are able to withstand exposure to contrary views.
They are even free to label these "garbage," although in our opinion David Blaska is a capable writer and commentator.
