Dear Tell All: I'm disgusted by the national discussion over Herman Cain's sexual harassment scandal. Almost everybody minimizes the victims' experience, including media types obsessed only with how it will affect his run for the Republican presidential nomination. Many mainstream pundits are actually expressing sympathy for this creep, despite the acknowledged settlements to women employed at the National Restaurant Association during Cain's sleazy tenure as CEO.
Cain, for his part, is simply evil. Yes, evil - I've chosen that word carefully. He expresses no remorse, and even initially denied remembering anything about the actions that led to big payouts to his victims. Now he's focused on blaming the women for being too sensitive, or for not being able to take a joke. Republicans rush to his defense, and voters stand behind him in the polls. What kind of sick society are we living in?

Dear Tell All: I realize that Kim Kardashian is a glorified joke. I've wasted a few harmless hours watching her reality TV series, but now I find myself truly offended by her recent shenanigans - the lavish televised wedding ceremony, followed by the divorce announcement just a few weeks later. She reportedly made millions on the deal, playing all of us for suckers.
Is this really worth getting upset over, or should I just keep laughing at Kim Kardashian? I'm embarrassed to be feeling any emotion at all about such a ridiculous person.

Dear Hater and Kouch: Despite their official stances of consternation, I think Cain and Kardashian are right where they want to be: in the headlines and on everyone's lips. Showing little understanding of current affairs or even his own positions, Cain displays few signs of someone who thought he could win a presidential nomination. No, he's simply a narcissist who wanted a higher profile. The same goes for Kardashian, who must be thrilled that she's now even more famous for no reason whatsoever.
Talking about these people just gives them what they want. So I'll shut up now.
